How can you make a laptop that is usb 1.1 to 2.0 with out changing the usb hubs? Can you use a PC card? thax?
I have an hp Centrino zt3380us and it has an 2.0 usb enhaced port but the speed is the same as usb. 1.1. I see adapters on ebay that are adapters that plug in to your usb hubs in the laptop but it seems this would not change anything because they are 1.1 even though the adapter is usb 2.0. so I have seen pc cards that have usb 2.0 with four hubs and wondered if the would convert it to usb 2.0. thanx peeps.
If I understand your question correctly, your HP Centrino zt3380us has onboard USB 2.0 ports, but they are operating as if they are USB 1.1 ports (i.e. at USB 1.1 data transfer speeds). And you want to know how to make your USB 2.0 ports work at USB 2.0 speeds.
* If you plug in a USB 2.0 device into a USB 2.0 port, it SHOULD work at the higher speed. But if when you plug in the device, you get a Windows popup saying something like “You have plugged in a high speed device into a non-high speed port” then you should also make sure that the cable is a USB 2.0 one. You might also want to install Windows XP Service Pack 2 (or SP 1, at the very least), as it is supposed to solve that problem.
* Also, check the HP website and see if there is a Flash BIOS download that you can do to make the USB 2.0 ports work at full speed. Go to HP.com and do a search on your notebook model.
* Failing that, you could always go to Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry’s, etc. and look for a USB 1.1-to-USB 2.0 PCMCIA adapter card, slip that into your PCMCIA slot, and you should be golden.
I am also having a similar complaint. My onboard USB ports are 1.1, and I am looking for a way to make them 2.0 without buying the PCMCIA card I just described, since I have only one PCMCIA slot on my notebook, which my wifi card uses. So, I am looking for a converter/adapter that will plug into my parallel port or something, so that I can plug in USB 2.0 devices into that and have my PCMCIA slot still be used by wi-fi.
Best of luck.
