Getting replacement laptop key?
I have a HP laptop pavillion Dv6.
Last night… All my keyboard was working perfectly fine, no problems.
Went to sleep…
In the morning I discovered that the backspace wasn’t working properly. The actual backspace works, but the key is broken.
It seems to me it has slightly deteriorated on the plastic raisers under the key which is not allowing it to clip to it’s counterpart without coming apart on key-press. I can get the key on fine, but if i press it on the left or right bottom corner the whole key flips up.
The laptop is still in warranty and laptop is almost 2 years old.
Will warranty cover this completely? I don’t want to pay anything. And can it be done at a local hardware/computer store or must it be sent to the manufacturer?
It should be covered by the warranty but, to be honest, the process is so easy that you should consider doing it yourself. Have a look on eBay for a replacement key (make sure it’s the right one!) and it should only set you back about $2. Replacing the part is common sense but there are plenty of how-tos on the internet, including video guides, in case you get stuck.
