Can i use another Laptop Power cable?
The adaptor in my laptop power cable has failed – don’t ask me how, but it has. it’s output was rated at 19volts and 4amps. I have another power cable for another computer which is rated at 19.5volts and 5.6amps.
Is it safe to use? I’m assuming a half volt difference will be in tolerance, and the higher ampage won’t matter because the computer won’t draw more than it needs, which is presumably no more than 5.6amps.
You’re correct about the current (amps) – the laptop will draw only what it needs.
The half-volt difference? Probably OK; I’d expect the laptop to have some internal voltage regulation, and not depend entirely on the power adapter’s regulation. You’re talking about only a 2.5% difference.
Don’t forget to check the connector size, and polarity. I’m guessing that you have a Toshiba laptop: I’ve got two, and both are 19 Volt, center-positive.
