ERROR windows has failed to start?

My girlfriend just recently turned her laptop on and when she turns it on it goes to a page that says ERROR windows has failed to start.What does this mean? She had it in her book bag in her gym locker was it because of this? How can it be repaired? Thank You So much.

This usually occurs with a faulty hard drive. System should be serviced by the manufacturer if it is still under warranty. Keeping it in her Gym Bag probably did not harm the unit.
