How to Format a Laptop Hard Drive
There are two possible reasons why you have to buy a new hard drive. It is either you need to replace a failed drive or to provide a higher storage capacity. In order to do that, you have to prepare it for Windows installation.
First of all, make sure that the hard disk is installed correctly in the laptop. If it is not installed properly, the drive cannot be formatted. After that, collect the necessary software. The kind of media depends on the hardware in the laptop. Laptops that run Windows XP entail the installation CD and product key. The older versions of Windows have disk-formatting ability in the installation process, and the installation media is either a CD or floppy disk. Then, put the installation disk or the software of the manufacturer in the drive and then boot the computer. The process will initially detect any installed hard disks and permit for them to be formatted. The software from the disk manufacturer will also detect the hard disk and give you the option to format the drive. Afterward, decide on which file system to use. For Windows XP, it will either run on a NTFS or VFAT file system. You can select your desired file system when impelled. Subsequently choose whether the whole disk should be formatted or if it will be partitioned and each partition to be formatted separately. The Windows installer contains a menu-driven utility. It will produce hard disk partitions prior to formatting. You should delete the existing partitions and reconstruct them if the hard disk is being formatted to change an existing Windows installation. Finally, format the hard disk with the Windows installer when prompted. It will inform when it is time to format and ask for confirmation.
Formatting a laptop hard drive is easy. As long as you have the Windows installation, it will not be difficult. So try to search more about discount laptop.
