Do you Recommend any programmes to keep my computer safe?

I already use McAfee but i was wondering if you could tell me some programmes that would keep my computer safe? My sister has McAfee and her laptop is starting to run pretty slow.I have Vista home premium, soon i’m thinking of upgrading to windows 7. It’s a new laptop and it runs smoothly, i don’t want it to get full of viruses. So if you guys could tell me some good anti virus sites to get a decent program to protect it, it would be great.

Microsoft released a free anti-virus/anti-spyware program called Microsoft Security Essentials a few weeks ago. It’s quite good.

So long as your copy of Windows is legitimate, you can use it for free.

Stay away from file-sharing sites, as they often are a source of malware.

Internet Explorer, while improved in recent versions, is often vulnerable to security problems. I recommend that you use a different web browser, such as Mozilla’s excellent Firefox browser. It’s available for free, and is usually much more secure than Internet Explorer.

You should also make sure that Windows Updates are turned on, so that your computer will automatically download and install the latest security updates from Microsoft. Additionally, you should ensure that any third-party programs are also updated on a regular basis.
