Is computer science the right major to become an IT?
This is what it says under computer science at berkeley
“At Berkeley, the emphasis is on the science of computer science. It includes the theory of computation, the design and analysis of algorithms, the architecture and logic design of compute rs, programming languages, compilers, operating systems, scientific computation, computer graphics, databases, artificial intelligence and natural language processing. Our goal is to prepare students both for a possible research career and long-term technical leadership in industry. We look beyond today’s technology and give students the big ideas and the learning skills that will prepare them to teach themselves about tomorrow’s technology.”

I will be transfering from san francisco city college, should I take the coarses under UC transfer admission coarses or major prep?
The description from Berkeley is true. I am about to get my BSCS in august. You are making new things that people have never seen or heard of like the iphone or maintaining and updating code or hardware like windows operating systems. You will not be doing modern IT stuff all too often. Some computer scientist can’t even assemble their computer. If you are looking for a challenge, Computer science is the right place. By all means, take some of those classes but make sure they can be transfered so that you don’t lose money. You can take the time to buy programming books on C++, Java and C#. They are what you will be using most often.
